Daniel Dubois demands more clinical Fabio Wardley rematch after brutal first fight

Daniel Dubois has warned Fabio Wardley that he intends to be more clinical in their rematch after claiming his rival was left in the ring too long during their first heavyweight encounter.

Dubois and Wardley produced an extraordinary battle in their previous meeting, with Dubois recovering from two early knockdowns before eventually forcing the stoppage.

The Londoner believes Wardley should have been pulled out of the contest sooner and suggested his opponent’s ability to absorb punishment may have influenced the decision to let the fight continue.

Stronger as the fight goes on

“They were gambling with him,” Dubois told Sky Sports News.

“Obviously he’s known for getting bashed up and coming back so that’s what they must have been gambling on. But I’m a different animal and I just keep getting stronger as the rounds go on.”

Dubois is now targeting an even stronger performance when the pair meet again, insisting he has learned from their first encounter.

More composed rematch

“We’re just going to do even better than the first time,” he warned. “You’ll see on the night.”

The heavyweight also wants to avoid another prolonged battle and has promised to look for an earlier finish.

“A bit quicker, a bit more clinical,” Dubois said.

“I can’t wait to get back in there again and stick it on him again.”

Dominant showing needed

Dubois’ confidence comes after he was forced to demonstrate his own resilience during the first fight, rising from the canvas twice before turning the contest in his favour.

The 28-year-old will now attempt to repeat the result while producing a more controlled performance against a Wardley who has already shown he can cause problems.

Dubois has also been linked with a potential future fight against the winner of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s December blockbuster, but he insisted that Wardley remains his only concern for now.

“I’m not looking past Fabio at all. One fight at a time,” he said.

“I’m just dedicating myself 100 percent to this fight.”
