Emile Heskey backs Harry Kane for Ballon d’Or after remarkable Bayern form

Emile Heskey believes Harry Kane deserves to win the Ballon d’Or after another extraordinary spell of goalscoring form with Bayern Munich.

Kane has continued to strengthen his case this season after becoming the fastest player in Bundesliga history to reach 100 goals, achieving the milestone in just 98 appearances.

The England captain has also taken his Bayern tally to 152 goals in 154 appearances, while his latest Bundesliga landmark came during a 7-0 victory over Union Berlin last month.

All-round contribution

Heskey believes Kane’s overall contribution makes him a stronger candidate than Bayern team-mate Michael Olise, who has also emerged as one of the leading contenders.

“I’d give it to Kane,” Heskey told 10bet.

“Olise has plenty of time to win one in the future. Look at Kane’s output - over 100 Bundesliga goals in under 100 games, plus his link-up play, assists, and defensive work rate.

“His consistency is phenomenal.”

Kane’s continued development has been particularly impressive given the changes to his game since moving away from Tottenham.

The 33-year-old has already established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in Bundesliga history, while his ability to contribute outside the penalty area has remained a major part of his game.

The complete forward

Heskey believes Kane has successfully adapted as the physical side of his game has changed, allowing him to become a more complete forward.

“Harry’s his own man,” Heskey said.

“Clever players figure out how to evolve when their physical attributes change, and he’s turned himself into a complete forward.”

Kane is currently on the Ballon d’Or shortlist, with the award ceremony scheduled to take place in London on October 26.

Tuchel backs Kane as well

His case has also received backing from England manager Thomas Tuchel, who recently described Kane as being at the “highest level” for the national team.

The striker has continued to combine his Bayern form with international production, scoring four goals during England’s current Nations League campaign and moving to 89 goals for the Three Lions.
