Rugby union news: Springboks sweat over Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu injury

Springboks star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu suffered a high-ankle sprain injury while scoring a try in the Stormers’ 44-21 victory over Cardiff in the URC quarter-finals on Saturday, May 30.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu is set to be out of action until September, but will aim to be fully fit for the Greatest Rivalry Tour clashes with rivals New Zealand in August.

The Springbok sensation will however miss the July Nations Championship Test matches against England, Scotland and Wales, as well as a game in early August against Argentina.

A serious injury

“It looks pretty serious, to be honest,” Stormers director of rugby John Dobson said of Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s injury after the game.

“They’re obviously going for a scan, but the doctor has given me his view, and it’s a proper ankle ligament injury.

“He was cramping a bit before then (scoring the try), and then (Ioan Lloyd) got him from behind.”

‘The game reminds you that you’re not invincible’ says SFM

Usually I post caption-less carousels. This time I’ll say it how it is,” Feinberg-Mngomezulu wrote in an Instagram post.

“Frustrated, irritated and questioning why me? First time injured in 14 months.

“Sometimes the game reminds you that you’re not invincible! Another injury, another chance to come back hungry, determined and focused.

“I’ve got a job to do, get back and get back better than I left. I’m not one to dwell, but I’ll have a little vent!

“Now..BACK TO WORK! Next job, crystal clear vision and mindset. See you soon!!”

Feinberg-Mngomezulu is a massive loss for Dobson and the Stormers heading into a formidable test against Irish giants Leinster at Aviva Stadium in the URC semi-final on Saturday.
