Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury 2026 showdown to reshape heavyweight landscape

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are finally on course to collide, with both heavyweights reportedly agreeing terms for a long-anticipated showdown scheduled for the final quarter of 2026.

The development shifts British boxing’s long-running narrative into a defined timeline, turning years of speculation into a structured build toward one of the sport’s most commercially significant match-ups.

Contracts signed for long-awaited Battle of Britain

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the agreement, framing it as both a landmark deal and a long-held objective.

"Signed, sealed and delivered! AJ vs Fury is on!" Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn declared on his social media.

He continued to say that it is "the biggest piece of business we've ever done but more importantly the one we've always wanted.

"Biggest year of AJ's career coming up, the comeback is on."

Joshua rebuild begins with Riyadh return

Before that clash materialises, Joshua’s immediate focus is on re-establishing momentum inside the ring.

He returns on July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he faces Kristian Prenga in the opening bout of a newly agreed multi-fight deal.

The contest marks a significant personal and professional step following his recovery from a fatal car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close members of his team.

"It's no secret I've taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring and today is the next step on that journey,” Joshua said of his return.

“I'm delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"I'm looking forward to competing and picking up where I left off. As I said: The landlord will collect his rent. That is certain,” he added.

Fury sharpens form and issues renewed challenge

On the other side, Fury has already begun sharpening his form.

His recent outing against Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is being positioned as a preparatory step toward the Joshua fight.

"Fury has just had his tune-up fight with 12 really vital rounds to get him sharp for the next one and I expect us to do the same,” Hearn said, referring to Fury’s recent fight against Makhmudov

Fury himself reignited the rivalry immediately after that bout, issuing a direct challenge.

"I want you, AJ, Anthony Joshua,” Fury said after the fight. “Let's give the fight fans what they want - the Battle of Britain.

“I challenge you Anthony Joshua to fight me, the Gypsy King next," Fury exclaimed.

"Do you accept my challenge?" He asked Joshua.

Joshua’s response reinforced the long-standing tension underpinning the match-up.

"I've been chasing you the last 10 years, when you're ready you come and see me and tell me your terms and conditions,” Joshua responded.

"I'm the boss, you work for me. I'm the landlord. You work for me."

Build-up underway for defining heavyweight clash

With both fighters now aligned contractually and active in the ring, the focus shifts from negotiation to execution.

The staged build, tune-ups, form, and timing all suggests a calculated approach to delivering a fight that has lingered at the top of boxing’s agenda for over a decade.
