Nations Championship news: Henry Slade recalled as Steve Borthwick seeks response against Fiji
England have recalled Henry Slade to their starting XV for Saturday's Nations Championship clash against Fiji as Steve Borthwick looks for an immediate response following last weekend's heavy defeat to the Springboks.
The experienced centre returns to partner Seb Atkinson in midfield, while Jamie George continues as captain in a side that knows another defeat would only increase scrutiny on England's recent run of results.
The selection reflects a preference for experience in key areas, although England have also named three potential debutants among the replacements in Benhard Janse van Rensburg, George Kloska and Noah Caluori.
Slade returns to steady the midfield
Slade's recall brings valuable experience to an England backline that struggled to consistently trouble South Africa in Johannesburg.
Tommy Freeman shifts back to the wing after his experiment in the midfield, while Marcus Smith starts at full-back behind the familiar half-back pairing of Fin Smith and Jack van Poortvliet.
The inclusion of Slade should provide greater organisation in defence and another composed distribution option as England look to move the ball more effectively against an athletic Fiji side.

England seeking a response
England enter the fixture having suffered a 45-21 defeat to South Africa, extending their losing streak to five consecutive Tests.
That run has intensified pressure on Borthwick, making Saturday's encounter an important opportunity to restore confidence before next week's trip to Argentina.
Despite the scrutiny, the England head coach remains confident in his squad's preparation.
"We've had a really positive week of preparation, and the players have worked hard in training,” Borthwick said.
"We know Fiji will provide a tough challenge. They are a dangerous side who will demand the very best from us."
Fiji present another stern examination
England will expect to control possession and territory, but Fiji's pace, offloading game and ability to punish defensive errors make them one of the most dangerous teams in international rugby.
The return of Slade should add leadership and composure to England's backline, while players such as Fin Smith, Marcus Smith and Tommy Freeman will be expected to provide the attacking spark.
For Borthwick, however, the biggest priority is the result.
After another difficult week of external scrutiny, England need a convincing performance to halt their losing run and build momentum before travelling to Argentina.
