Premiership Rugby news: Henry Pollock inspires Northampton Saints to title victory over Exeter Chiefs

Henry Pollock produced a Player of the Match performance as Northampton Saints fought back to defeat Exeter Chiefs 26-17 and claim the Premiership Rugby title at Twickenham on Saturday.

Saints recovered from an early deficit to secure a memorable victory, with George Hendy scoring twice and Pollock delivering another influential display in a season that has further established him as one of English rugby's brightest talents.

The triumph capped a remarkable campaign for Northampton and provided a fitting reward for a side that has consistently been among the Premiership's strongest performers.

Pollock rises to the occasion

While Saints' attacking quality proved decisive, much of the post-match attention centred on Pollock.

The young loose-forward was influential across the field, helping Northampton regain momentum after Exeter's strong start and repeatedly providing energy in both attack and defence.

His display earned him Player of the Match honours and further strengthened his growing reputation within English rugby.

Following the victory, Pollock admitted the occasion carried extra significance given his connection to the club.

"It's a dream," Pollock told TNT Sports, quoted on Sky Sports.

"The season has been so long, I'm just delighted."

The 21-year-old also highlighted the pressure that accompanied the occasion.

"All that pressure, we really showed up today, so I'm happy."

Saints overcome early challenge

Northampton were forced to work hard for the title after Exeter made an encouraging start and asked several difficult questions of the eventual champions.

However, Saints gradually found their rhythm and began to impose themselves on the contest.

George Hendy's double proved crucial, while Northampton's defence stood firm during several important moments in the second half as Exeter attempted to fight their way back into the match.

Pollock praised his side's ability to handle those challenges.

"The whole team had pressure, and I thought we rose to that really well," he said.

"Pressure is a privilege and if you take it in the right way, you can use it to your advantage."

Defensive effort proves decisive

Although Northampton produced several impressive attacking moments, Pollock reserved particular praise for the team's defensive resilience.

"Exeter were amazing," he said.

"We knew they were going to come back at us in the second half, and our defence showed up really well."

That defensive effort ultimately allowed Saints to maintain control during the closing stages and secure the victory that confirmed them as Premiership champions for the third time in their history.

Boyhood dream realised

For Pollock, the occasion represented more than simply another trophy.

Having progressed through Northampton's pathway system, lifting the Premiership title with his boyhood club carried added emotional significance.

"My boyhood club, I'm so happy," he added.

"It's what you dream of as a little kid."

With another major honour secured and Pollock continuing to establish himself as one of the game's most exciting young forwards, Northampton's future appears just as promising as their present.
