Test cricket betting tips and predictions: England vs Pakistan and Australia vs Bangladesh

England face Pakistan at Headingley before Australia host Bangladesh in Mackay, with plenty of betting angles across both Tests.

Joe Root begins his second spell as England Test captain when Pakistan arrive in Leeds, while Australia look to respond after a shock defeat to Bangladesh in the opening Test.

Both matches present contrasting opportunities, with England's pace attack and Australia's response providing the key betting angles.

England vs Pakistan: Back Archer to make an impact

England are 1.30 favourites, with Pakistan available at 3.30, ahead of the first Test at Headingley on Wednesday.

The return of Root as captain adds plenty of intrigue, but England's pace attack could be the decisive factor in conditions traditionally capable of offering assistance to seamers.

Jofra Archer is therefore the standout individual betting option.

Archer claimed 11 wickets at an average of 22.81 during England's most recent Test series against New Zealand and has already demonstrated that he can be particularly dangerous when conditions offer movement.

His previous Test appearance at Headingley produced remarkable figures of 8-85 against Australia, further strengthening the case for Archer to make an impact.

The weather could also influence the contest, with cloud and potential rain potentially creating greater assistance for swing and seam bowling.

Best bet: Jofra Archer to be England's top wicket-taker.

Australia vs Bangladesh: Can the tourists repeat the upset?

Australia are heavy 1.06 favourites, despite Bangladesh producing one of the biggest surprises of the current World Test Championship cycle by winning the opening Test in Darwin.

Bangladesh are priced at 7.05 to claim another victory, but the circumstances surrounding the second Test make the market more interesting than those prices initially suggest.

Australia have responded to their defeat by dropping opener Jake Weatherald, with Matthew Renshaw brought into the squad as his replacement.

That change could provide Australia's batting order with greater experience as they attempt to level the series.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, could welcome back Shoriful Islam after he passed a fitness test.

However, his return is far from guaranteed given how effectively the bowling attack performed in Darwin.

Mackay introduces another unknown

The second Test will be played at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, which becomes Australia's 12th men's Test venue.

Its limited recent red-ball history makes the conditions considerably harder to assess than those at Australia's established Test grounds.

The last first-class match at the venue came in October 2024, when Brendan Doggett took 6-15 for Australia A against India A.

That uncertainty makes me reluctant to oppose Australia outright despite their opening-Test defeat.

Instead, the better angle could be targeting Australia's individual markets, particularly their response with the bat and ball.

Best bet: Australia to win the Test.

Best bets

England vs Pakistan: Jofra Archer top England wicket-taker

England vs Pakistan: England to win — 1.30

Australia vs Bangladesh: Australia to win — 1.06

Australia vs Bangladesh: Consider Bangladesh markets selectively rather than backing the outright upset at 7.05

The two Tests offer very different betting propositions.

England's conditions at Headingley could make their pace attack the defining factor, while Australia's biggest question is whether they can adapt quickly enough to a new venue and recover from their unexpected defeat in Darwin.
