Champions League betting tips: FC Porto vs Man City prediction, preview, odds and team news
Manchester City begin their 2026-27 Champions League campaign with a difficult trip to FC Porto on Tuesday night, with Enzo Maresca's side looking to make a winning start to their first European campaign under the new manager.
Man City have made a positive start domestically, winning three consecutive Premier League matches after opening the season with a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield.
Porto, meanwhile, have been perfect in competitive action this season, winning all six of their matches and conceding just once.
That makes this a considerably more interesting contest than the 1.60 price for an away victory might suggest.
Porto's defensive record, home advantage and excellent start under Francesco Farioli should make them capable of frustrating Manchester City, while Maresca's side are still bedding in several new signings and adapting to a new tactical regime.
With that in mind, Under 2.5 goals at 2.41 stands out as the most interesting selection from the available markets.

FC Porto vs Man City form
Porto could hardly have asked for a better start to the season.
Farioli's side have won all six of their competitive matches, including five Primeira Liga victories, while conceding just one goal. Their latest outing ended in a 2-1 victory over Moreirense.
That defensive record is particularly noteworthy ahead of a meeting with Haaland and Man City's considerable attacking quality.
Porto were also defensively impressive during their title-winning campaign last season, conceding just 18 league goals, and their early-season performances suggest that Farioli has maintained the team's structure.
However, this game represents a major step up in opposition.
Man City have also won their last three Premier League matches, beating Bournemouth 2-1, Crystal Palace 4-1 and Coventry City 1-0.
The result against Coventry was not especially convincing, though, with Man City managing only four shots on target.
Maresca has also had to integrate a number of new arrivals into his midfield, including Enzo Fernandez and Ayyoub Bouaddi, while Iliman Ndiaye has also been introduced into the squad.
The Italian's first Champions League match in charge therefore arrives with Man City still looking for their best version of themselves.
FC Porto team news
Porto have several absences to contend with.
Jan Bednarek is suspended after carrying over a European ban, while Victor Froholdt is unavailable after being knocked unconscious during the weekend victory over Moreirense.
Vasco Sousa, Oskar Pietuszewski, Gabriel Mec, Zaidu Sanusi and Samu Aghehowa are also unavailable. Aghehowa is recovering from an ACL injury.
Santiago Gimenez could therefore be given an opportunity to start after making his debut from the bench at the weekend, although André Silva remains another option in attack.

Man City team news
Man City have fewer concerns, although Maresca has already acknowledged that he needs to manage his squad carefully.
Jeremy Doku is unavailable with a calf problem, while Nico O'Reilly suffered a back injury during the warm-up before Saturday's win over Coventry.
The biggest question surrounds Haaland.
The striker has scored in each of City's three Premier League victories and has played every competitive minute of the season so far.
Maresca has admitted that Haaland will need to be rested at some point, meaning there is at least some uncertainty over how much football he will play during this busy period.
However, given the significance of City's Champions League opener, it would be a surprise if Haaland did not start unless there is a late change.
Predicted Man City XI

City are expected to use a 4-2-3-1, although Maresca has demonstrated some flexibility with his system during the opening weeks of the campaign.
Why Porto can make this difficult for City
The obvious argument against backing City at 1.60 is that Porto are being priced as though their excellent start means relatively little.
That feels harsh.
Farioli's team have been extremely difficult to break down, and there are similarities between the two sides in how they want to control possession and dictate the tempo.
That could produce a surprisingly measured opening.
Porto are unlikely to chase City recklessly. Their best opportunity of getting a result is to remain compact, force City to circulate possession in less dangerous areas and then attack when opportunities emerge.
Man City, meanwhile, have shown some signs that they are still developing under Maresca.
The 1-0 victory over Coventry was enough to extend their winning run, but it was hardly a performance that suggests they are already operating at the level required to overwhelm a disciplined Champions League opponent.
Racing Post has also identified Under 2.5 goals as its best bet, pointing to Porto's defensive record and the possibility of a low-tempo contest.
That makes the Betway price of 2.41 particularly interesting.

Best bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.41
This is our preferred selection.
The market has clearly anticipated goals, with Over 2.5 priced at just 1.53, but there is a compelling case for going the other way.
City have also shown that they are capable of winning without producing a high-scoring game. Their most recent league match ended 1-0, while a potentially difficult away fixture in Porto could encourage Maresca to prioritise control over attacking risk.
The key scores for this selection are obvious:
0-1, 0-2 or 1-1.
All three are entirely plausible.
At 2.41, Under 2.5 therefore offers considerably more appeal than simply taking the City win at 1.60.
Man City to win @ 1.60
There is a considerable difference in individual attacking quality, particularly if Haaland starts, and City's depth should eventually give them an advantage as the game progresses.
But the price is the issue.
A 1.60 price implies a probability of 62.5% before accounting for the bookmaker's margin.
Given Porto's perfect start, excellent defensive record and home advantage, I don't think that represents enough value to make the straight win our preferred wager.
That doesn't mean Man City won't win.
It means the result and the value bet are two different things.

Erling Haaland anytime goalscorer @ 1.70
Haaland is another logical option.
He has scored in each of City's three Premier League victories and remains the team's biggest threat in front of goal.
He also has an excellent Champions League record, making 1.70 a reasonable price if he is confirmed in the starting XI.
The concern is simply rotation.
Maresca has already discussed the need to rest Haaland after the striker played every competitive minute of the season so far.
Therefore, this is a bet I'd consider only once the line-ups are confirmed.
BTTS - No @ 2.22
This is the more speculative alternative.
The 1.59 price for BTTS Yes looks short given Porto's defensive record, while BTTS No at 2.22 provides a much more interesting return.
Porto have kept five clean sheets in six competitive games, and a game in which City control possession without creating a huge number of clear opportunities is certainly plausible.
The obvious danger is that City's attacking quality can destroy a good defensive structure very quickly.
I'd therefore prefer Under 2.5, but BTTS No @ 2.22 is a reasonable value alternative.

FC Porto vs Man City prediction
Porto's perfect start makes this a much more competitive fixture than the 5.00 home price suggests.
Farioli has built a side that is difficult to break down, and the Estádio do Dragão should provide a hostile environment for Maresca's first Champions League match as Man City boss.
Ultimately, however, City's greater individual quality should see them through.
I expect Porto to make the game uncomfortable and keep the score down, but Haaland and Man City's attacking depth should eventually prove decisive.
